Design Technology

Our visions for Design Technology:

At St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School our aim for design and technology is to embed all the learning through our personalised topics, ensuring opportunities for students to follow the whole process from designing, to making, to evaluating their own and others’ work. Using creativity and imagination, pupils will design and make their own products linked to real life, within a variety of topics, considering design criteria. We always aim to give our learning purpose and allows children to explore the knowledge and cultural capital they need in order to succeed in life. We strive to select and use appropriate tools safely and effectively to create products.

Our Aims for Design Technology:

  • To develop creative thinking in children and encourage and enable them to talk about what they like and dislike when designing and making
  • To develop communication skills through team work in group projects.
  • To enable children to draw and model their ideas before making, thinking about specific design criteria
  • To encourage children to select suitable tools and techniques with growing independence safely
  • To explore the man-made world and how we live and work within it
  • To foster a love and enjoyment of designing, ending with purpose and satisfaction
