Here at St Teresa's Catholic Primary School we recognise the value that a high quality phonics curriculum can offer to our pupils.

All pupils are entitled to a high quality phonics curriculum, which is adapted and tailored to meet the needs of all individuals. This includes catering for a range of learners by using visually engaging resources to make learning fun.

We provide daily phonics sessions which allow pupils to develop and enhance their segmenting and blending skills in order to become fluent and confident readers. We intend to do this by promoting the importance of early reading and highlighting how vital this is to help children flourish and succeed.

At St. Teresa's we follow STEPS - St Teresa's Enriching Phonics Scheme. This is a method of learning letter sounds and blending them together in order to learn how to read and write words. As part of this, children have daily phonics sessions and participate in a range of activities to help to develop their reading, writing and spelling.
